Spiced Stewed Plums

Plums are in season and there is a wonderful choice to eat fresh and to cook.  This recipe will bring you a simple but luscious stewed  mix of President and Angelina plums. The purple skins create a thick and delicious syrup to pour over ice-cream.

Spiced Stewed Plums


  • 5 President plums, stoned and halved
  • 6-8 Angelina plums, stoned and halved
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon or 2 cinnamon quills
  • 3 cloves
  • 500 ml water

  1. Place water and sugar into a large saucepan on a high heat
  2. Add cinnamon and cloves and bring to the boil and cook till sugar has dissolved
  3. Add the plums and return to the boil
  4. Lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes
  5. Allow to cool for the spices to mellow
  6. Serve warm or cold with ice cream or custard
