Plums are in season and there is a wonderful choice to eat fresh and to cook. This recipe will bring you a simple but luscious stewed mix of President and Angelina plums. The purple skins create a thick and delicious syrup to pour over ice-cream.
Spiced Stewed Plums
Ingredients
- 5 President plums, stoned and halved
- 6-8 Angelina plums, stoned and halved
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon or 2 cinnamon quills
- 3 cloves
- 500 ml water
Method
- Place water and sugar into a large saucepan on a high heat
- Add cinnamon and cloves and bring to the boil and cook till sugar has dissolved
- Add the plums and return to the boil
- Lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes
- Allow to cool for the spices to mellow
- Serve warm or cold with ice cream or custard
